Position Description

A job involving an appointment for infrequent temporary work where the employee is called in as needed.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provide patient care management in collaboration with attending physicians in a Level-III NICU at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
  • Educate, counsel, and support families by explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognoses, while guiding them through discharge planning and ongoing care needs.
  • Perform advanced neonatal procedures such as intubation, umbilical and central line placement, chest tube insertion, and neonatal resuscitation.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, lab results, and imaging to inform treatment decisions.
  • Prescribe medications to treat a variety of newborn conditions, including prematurity, congenital heart defects, respiratory distress, and chromosomal abnormalities.
  • Coordinate and manage safe discharge planning and follow-up care.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries
  • Attend transports for high acuity patients.
  • Mentor and teach students and residents.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practitioner.
